How do we go about fixing the education system?
I’ve been thinking a lot about this question and I’m sure you have too. The answer to this problem is very simple:
1) We need more funding for education. Lots of people complain about the lack of funding for schools and education among other things (healthcare, etc.) but nearly no one does anything to help fix it. If we want the education system to improve, we need to stop complaining and start helping.
2) We need more teachers who are dedicated to their craft. Making an impact on young children is one of the hardest jobs out there – because it takes an incredible amount of patience, love, selflessness, and understanding.
3) We need to rid the world of financial dependence on public education. Don’t get me wrong, I love the idea of American children being taught by experts who are passionate about their field of study – but I just don’t think it’s possible when schools are underfunded and teachers have to work several jobs just to make ends meet.
What else can we do?
There is one more thing we can do – and it may be more important than everything else combined: Teach our children that they deserve a good education. We need to teach them that education is not a guarantee as much as it is a right for everyone in America. We need to teach our children that the education system isn’t what’s failing us – it’s the people working within it.
